Coffeyville - George F. Barnard, age 85, of Coffeyville, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. George was born on September 17, 1923 to George W. and Mary Evelyn (Caulkins) Barnard in rural Valeda, Kansas. He grew up in the Coffeyville area and attended Coffeyville Schools. After he finished school, George enlisted in the Army. When he finished his duty in the Army, George worked as a carpenter in the area for many years. On April 21, 1946 he married Dixie Stanley in Coffeyville. They raised their family in Coffeyville. He attended Tyro Christian church. George enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and working on a Ford Model A Coupe he restored. George is survived by his wife Dixie, of the home; one daughter, Nancy Lynnette Diveley of rural Coffeyville; two sons, Bruce Gregory Barnard of Owasso, Oklahoma and Rick Alan Barnard of Independence, KS; one brother, Jim Barnard of South Coffeyville, OK; five sisters, Dorothy Edwards of Midway, GA, Marjorie Whitebird of Coffeyville, Gloria Zimmerman and Leola Walker of Bakersfield, CA, and Linda Patteson of Moline, KS; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He has been preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Audrey Reeder of Shamrock, TX. A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, April 3 at 1:00pm at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. David Bycroft of Tyro Christian Church will officiate. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the book from 9:00am until 9:00pm at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
