Maxine Nancy Blackledge, 94, of Caney, passed away Wednesday (December 5, 2007) at her home.
She was born September 2, 1913 at Dewey, Oklahoma to Clarence and Bessie (Barnett) McBride. She grew up in Caney where she attended school graduating from Caney High School.
In 1934 she married Alvin T. "Junior" Jones. Following their marriage they made their home in the Caney area where Mr. Jones worked for Cities Service. Mr. Jones preceded her in death in 1936. Following Mr. Jones death Maxine attended Bartlesville Business School.
In 1963 she married Gwynne Blackledge. They owned and operated Blackledge Sales Company "Furniture of Distinction" for many years. Gwynne owned the Caney Valley National Bank in Caney for many years and Maxine served on the Board of Directors. Mr. Blackledge preceded her in death in 1982.
Mrs. Blackledge was a member of the First Christian Church in Caney, and the Caney Valley Historical Society.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy and Darrel Roe of Caney; one brother, Earl and Willetta McBride of Caney; one grandson Dave and Tressa Morrow, two great granddaughters, Andrea Morrow and Meredith Morrow all of Charlotte, N.C.; and one sister-in-law, Janet Peterson of Stillwater, OK. She was also preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Dale Morrow.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday (December 10, 2007) in the First Christian Church in Caney with Pastor Brad Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery at Caney.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Caney, and from 6: 00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the Caney Valley Historical Society and the First Christian Church in Caney; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
