Coffeyville - Gwynne L. Wintjen, of Coffeyville passed away Tuesday night (March 24, 2009) at her home. She was 68 years of age.
She was born on June 9, 1940 in Durant, OK to R.E. "Buck" and Lillian (Reynolds) Miller. She moved with her family to Nowata, OK where she graduated from Nowata High School and continued her education at Coffeyville Community Junior College and then at Pittsburg State University where she earned her bachelors and masters degree in education.
On December 20, 1958 she married James L, Wintjen in Miami, OK. They lived in Coffeyville where she taught English at Roosevelt Middle School from 1980-2002.
Gwynne was a member of the First Christian Church of Coffeyville and National Education Association (NEA). She enjoyed camping and fishing and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, James of the home; three sons, Dave Wintjen and Phil (Denise) Wintjen, both of Coffeyville, KS and Zeke (Debbie) Wintjen of Clute, TX; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be held at the First Christian Church of Coffeyville on Saturday, March 28 at 2:00pm with Rev. Nathan Smith officiating assisted by Mike Mason. Cremation has taken place.
Friends may sign the book from 9:00am and 9:00pm on Friday, March 27 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
