Obituary of Ruth V. York

Sedan - Ruth Virginia York, age 101, of Sedan, passed away Monday, March 16, 2009 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, Kansas. She was born February 2, 1908 in rural Hale, Kansas to Charles and Nora (Gates) Theobald. She grew up and attended school in Hale, Kansas until the eighth grade. On May 5, 1934 she married Melvin Reeder in Kansas City, Missouri, to this union was born Marilyn Wisdom and Susan Crafton. She worked for Macy's Department Store in Kansas City, Missouri as a sales clerk for over twenty years before retiring in 1980. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Reeder. She later moved to Sedan, Kansas and married Charles York and he passed away in 1987. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan, Kansas. She is survived by her daughter, Susan and husband Ronny Crafton of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; special friends, Sylvester and Millie Spire of Sedan, Kansas. She was preceded in death by one daughter Marilyn Wisdom, husbands Melvin Reeder and Charles York, parents, and brothers and sisters. Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Chautauqua, Kansas with Earl Tresner officiating. Family and Friends may call Tuesday, March 17, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Pleasant Valley Manor Christmas Store and can be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
