Coffeyville - Adaline Rose Charvat, 88, of rural Independence, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She was born February 5, 1921 at Claflin, KS to Fred and Rosa (Miller) Galliart. Adaline attended Ney Grade School and graduated from Dorrance High School in Dorrance, KS. Upon graduation she moved to Coffeyville where she worked for C.P. Gordon's Grocery, and later, Bayer & Lynch Grocery. On August, 29, 1944 she married Leo B. Charvat at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson, KS. Following their marriage they moved to Coffeyville where Mr. Charvat was stationed at the Coffeyville Army Air Base. After his discharge in 1946 they continued to make their home in Coffeyville where Leo was an automotive mechanic for nearly 70 years, and Adaline was a homemaker and Bookkeeper for her husband's business. Mr. Charvat preceded her in death on April 6, 2005. Adaline was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, and Holy Name Altar Society St. Francis Cirlce #3 both in Coffeyville, Lucky 13 Extension Club, and 4-H Leader. Survivors include one son, Leo D. Charvat and wife Shirley of Lincoln, NE; one daughter, Jolene Campbell and husband Dale of Cockeysville, MD, four grandchildren, Stephanie Becker of Laurel, MD; Scott Campbell of Lovettsville, VA; Clinton Charvat of Wichita, and Tracie Charvat of Gladstone, MO; three great-grandchildren, Eric Becker and James Becker both of Laurel MD, and Henry Campbell of Lovettsville, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one son, Bobby Charvat in 1978. A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009 in Holy Name Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2009 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Wilson, KS with Father David Metz officiating. The family suggests memorials to Holy Name Catholic School; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
