Obituary of Ellen Erlene Black

Sedan - Ellen Erlene Black, age 89, of Sedan, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the Life Care Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born January 8, 1920 in Sedan, Kansas to Alva H. and Maude (Bray) Burris. She grew up and attended school at Sedan graduating from Sedan High School. She worked as the Registrar in the Register of Deeds Office for Chautauqua County for 25+ years until her retirement. She lived in Sedan all of her life before recently moving to Wichita, Kansas. She attended the First Baptist Church and she loved to read. She is survived by one daughter, Lynne and husband Dr. David Margolis of Wichita, Kansas; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister Lorene Knowles, and one grandson. Friends may sign the register book on Monday, March 2, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas. The casket will be closed. Gravesides services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Greenwood Cemetery with Dr. J. Dean McNamara of the First Baptist Church of Sedan officiating. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the American Heart Association and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
