Coffeyville - Jack G. Pendleton, 80, of Coffeyville passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born April 16, 1928 at Havana, Kansas to Glenn and Grace (Powell) Pendleton, where his father worked at the family grocery store. In 1933 they move to Independence where his father and uncles ran a service station on Main St. In 1941 they moved to Coffeyville when his father joined Link and William "Bill" Henry Pendleton at the Pendleton Motor Company located at 121 W. 7th St. Jack was one of the youngest pilots in the State of Kansas, receiving his pilots license before he was eligible to drive an automobile. He graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1946, attended one year at Coffeyville Junior College before transferring to Kansas State University at Manhattan graduating in January 1951 with a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. On February 10, 1951 he married Mary Ann Privitt at South Coffeyville, OK. Following their marriage they lived in Ponca City, OK, and Blackwell, OK before returning to Coffeyville in 1954 where Jack was employed by his Uncle Bill at Pendleton Motors until it closed. In the spring pf 1956 he went to work for Continental Can where he was employed as Production Engineer for five years before becoming Chief Engineer at Wheatley Valve Company in Caney for 17 years. He was Chief Engineer for Judd Valve in Caney for 10 years until they sold to Mueller Company where he continued working until retiring in 1988. Following his retirement he volunteered at Coffeyville Community College, and was the G.E.D. Examiner in 1996 and 1997. In his retirement he studied extension courses in accounting and computer science at Coffeyville Community College. Jack was a former longtime active member of the First Christian Church in Coffeyville. He was presently a member of First Christian Church in Independence. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity while at KSU, he was chairman of the rural water district for 31 years, and a member of Triple C Investment Club. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of the home; three daughter, Grace Ann Allen of Spring Hill, KS, Dona Lou Pendleton of Coffeyville, and Glenna Rae Pendleton of Ft. Worth, TX; one brother, Jay Pendleton of Levitown, PA; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2009 in the First Christian Church in Independence with Rev. Terry Hatfield and Rev. Bill Privitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Havana Cemetery at Havana, KS. Friends may call on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church in Independence, or Boy Scout Troop #48, and Boy Scout Troop #5; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
