Coffeyville - Clarence E. "Ed" Simpson, 70, of Coffeyville, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009, in St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, OK.
He was born June 3, 1938 at Fort Scott, KS to Clarence A. and Mildred Lucille (Sheehy) Simpson. He grew up and attended school in several communities in Kansas and Missouri, graduating from Hume High School in Hume, MO.
On June 20, 1963 he married Bette Mavers at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where Ed was employed at Sherwin-Williams and later at Farmland Refinery where he worked until retiring in 2000.
Ed was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church.
He was proud of his family and his grandsons were the pride and joy of his life. He enjoyed Nascar Racing and sports, but watching his grandsons' baseball games and cross country meets made him the happiest. Ed enjoyed meeting friends in the morning for coffee at McDonalds, and recently served 18 months on the Federal Grand Jury in Kansas City.
Survivors include his wife, Bette of the home; one daughter Terri Roberts and husband Randy of Springdale, AR; two grandsons, Jake Kyler Roberts and Benjamin Parker Roberts both of Springdale, AR; and one brother, Roger Simpson of Mt. Vernon, WA; and several nieces and nephews.
A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville.
Friends may sign the register book on Monday, February 2, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to Holy Name Catholic Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
