Lois E. Custer, age 83, of Chautauqua, Kansas passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, Kansas.
She was born April 28, 1925 in Chelsea, Oklahoma to John W. and Elizabeth Katherine (Aday) Hart. She grew up and attended school in the Winganon, Oklahoma area until the eighth grade. She married Robert E. Custer on June 10, 1946 in Sedan, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1990. She was a housewife all of her life and enjoyed crocheting, working in her flowers, and seeing her grandchildren and many friends.
She was a member of the Chautauqua Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Joyce and husband Ron Spire of Chanute, Kansas; one granddaughter, Shel and husband Brad Miner of Chanute, Kansas; one grandson, Cedric and wife Shawna Spire of Talbott, Tennessee; four great-grandchildren, Skyler and Ashli Miner of Chanute, Kansas, and Hayley and Austin Spire of Talbott, Tennessee; two sisters, Edith Bowman and Jean McGill, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and three sisters.
Friends and Family may call on Thursday, January 22, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.
Church Services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Chautauqua Baptist Church with Reverends Kevin Fogerty and Reverend Gerald Dyer officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Chautauqua, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or the Chautauqua Baptist Church and those remembrances may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
