Coffeyville - Hazel E. "Betty" Hazelwood, age 91, of Coffeyville, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009 at her residence in Coffeyville.
She was born August 27, 1917 in Cherryvale, Kansas to Herman R. and Alta May (Trout) Clark. She attended and graduated from the Cherryvale High School. She married Ramon "Ossie" Rutledge in 1938. They later divorced. On November 22, 1962 she married Fred Hazelwood in their home. She was secretary and bookkeeper for the family business Hazelwood Plumbing. Following her husband's retirement she worked for Gold Photo for 18 years. Mr. Hazelwood preceded her in death on January 3, 1990.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Coffeyville. She was an excellent seamstress and cook. She enjoyed playing bridge and was involved in PTA and Girl Scouts, but most of all she was a devoted mother and grandmother and truly enjoyed family gatherings at her home.
She is survived by three daughters, Deanna Sanders of Coffeyville, Charlotte and Bill Harer of Tulsa, OK, and Rebecca and Tom Wachter, of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren, Mike and Aurora Allen, Kathy and Brian Smith, David and Jennifer Meredith II, Reagen and Jeff Haby, Meagen and Josh Cedor, Christine and Barry Steichen, Annette Harer and Kelly Stafford; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred Hazelwood, one brother and one sister.
Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, January 18, 2009 at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Coffeyville with Reverend Nathan Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the First Christian Church of Coffeyville or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. These remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
