Sedan - Doyle Clinton Call, age 87, of Wauneta, Kansas passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Doyle was born on a farm near Lowe, Kansas (ten miles west of Sedan, Kansas) on May 6, 1921 and was the second of seven children of Gladys Mabel (Phillips) Call and Arnold Rufus Call. He grew up on a farm near Lowe and attended Dennick School nearby, along with his two brothers and four sisters. He married Ruth Elma Vanderhoof on August 30, 1941 in Independence, Kansas. After their marriage, they immediately became involved in farming and ranching. They moved to their current home North of Wauneta, Kansas in 1943 and lived there until the last two and half years when they shared time between their ranch home and their home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Doyle's life has been centered around a cow and calf operation raising beef cattle. He thoroughly enjoyed ranching and living on his land. In 2006, after 65 years of managing his ranch land he received the Pioneer Award for a lifetime of Conservation in Chautauqua County, Kansas. In later years, he enjoyed golf, playing cards and riding around in the evenings watching the local wildlife. His joy has been his family and being with his faithful wife, Ruth, for 67 years and having his children, grandchildren and three great-grandsons come for a visit. He was an active member of the Wauneta First United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Call and three children: one daughter, Mavis (Call) Smith and husband John of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; two sons, Larry Call and wife, Linda of Jefferson City, Missouri and Calvin Call and wife Mary, also of Jefferson City, Missouri. In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren which include: Jeff Smith and wife Vicki of Edmond, Oklahoma, Corey Smith of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Jason Call and wife Melissa of Jefferson City, Missouri, Doug Call and wife Jennifer of Kansas City, Missouri, Becky Call of Independence, Missouri and William Call of St. Louis, Missouri.
