Sedan - Cynthia Jane "Cindy" Carpenter, age 57, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Monday, November 26, 2007 at her home in Sedan with her sister Barbara Cummings at her side. She was born at the Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California on November 3, 1950 to Orville H. and Clara E. Carpenter, sharing her birth date with her father and paternal grandmother. In her early years, she briefly attended special schooling in Altus, Oklahoma. She lived in Idaho and Oklahoma for a brief time before moving home with her family in 1963 to Sedan. She was a loving person born with Down Syndrome. She lived her entire life with her parents. After her mother died, her sister Barbara moved in and took care of Cindy and their Daddy until he passed away on November 22, 2005. She is survived by two sisters, Barbara Cummings of the home in Sedan, Kansas and Madeline June Cavanaugh and her husband Mark of Altus, Oklahoma; two nieces Mandy Miller of Sedan, Kansas and Mandy Cavanaugh of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two nephews, Corey Cummings and wife Jenny of Ashland, Missouri and Aaron Cavanaugh of the United States Army; five great nephews, Kody and Kolby Gorby and Korey Miller all of Sedan, Kansas and Tucker Cummings of Nowata, Oklahoma and Braden Cummings of Ashland, Missouri and one great niece, Stormey Cummings of Nowata, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Clara and one uncle, Jack Cummings. The casket will be closed and friends may sign the register book from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2007 and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Chaplain Mike Graham officiating. Private family burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and the Down Syndrome Association and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas Street, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
