Troy Borum, 83, of Coffeyville, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Sedan City Hospital in Sedan.
He was born September 6, 1925 at Washburn, Arkansas to William and Reba (May) Borum. He grew up and attended school in Greenwood, Arkansas.
He was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, serving in the Navy during WW II and the Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Arkansas.
On February 22, 1947 he married Billie Conley at Booneville, Arkansas. They made their home in Booneville until moving to Coffeyville in 1953 when they purchased the Superette Grocery located at 8th and Washita and changed the name to Borum's Nu-Way Foodliner, they later moved the store to 1223 West 8th where they operated the family business until retiring in 1993.
Troy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville for 50 years, a member of Keystone Sunday School Class, and a lifetime member of Blocher Masonic Lodge #247 in Booneville, AR. He was an active supporter of Coffeyville, serving on the Chamber of Commerce Board for 29 years, a member of the Coffeyville City Commission for 2 terms, the Salvation Army Board for many years, was a longtime board member and past president of the Interstate Fair and Rodeo Assoc.; a member of the Coffeyville Boys Club board; charter member of the board of directors of Coffeyville State Bank; a member of the board of directors for Associated Wholesale Grocers for 18 years, and a member of the Montgomery County Draft Board, Troy and George Ficklin of George's Cafeteria where instrumental in starting the annual Feed at the Interstate Fair and Rodeo, and the Farmer's Market. The Borum's were also active sponsors and supporters of youth sports.
Survivors include his wife, Billie of the home; four sons, Carey Borum, Randy Borum, Steve Borum and Kirk Borum all of Coffeyville; one daughter, Tonni Harrald of Owasso, OK; and six grandchildren.
Services will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2009 in the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville with Rev. John Collins officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park.
Friends may call from today from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
