Gladys Irene Sanders, age 93, formerly of Independence, and Dearing Kansas passed away Tuesday, December 16 at Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Gladys was born on February 23, 1915 in Salisbury, Missouri to Emiel Frederick and Berta (McCarty) Kruse. She grew up in Clifton Hill, Missouri where she graduated high school and married Millard McCully Sanders on June 22, 1933.
Together they raised a family. Mr. Sanders preceded her in death on November 11, 1972.
She also lived in Bartlesville, Broken Arrow, and Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Dearing and Independence, Kansas.
After moving to Independence, Kansas she worked at Sandott Lumber Company and retired in July of 1990.
Mrs. Sanders loved her family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, and watching her favorite shows on television. Over the years she made many memories enjoying her pets (numerous dogs and cats).
Gladys is survived by two daughters, Patricia Statham and Dorothy Terhune, both of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two sons, James M. Sanders of rural Coffeyville, and Stephen S. Sanders; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She has been preceded in death by her husband, Millard; her parents; three brothers, Russell Kruse, Marvin Kruse, and Emory Kruse; and one sister, Lucy Harris.
A Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence Kansas with Dr. Wayne Norton of the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville officiating. Service time will be announced at a later date by the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
Cremation has taken place.
