Obituary of Lula Hurt

Sedan - Lula Hurt, age 72, of Caney, Kansas passed away Tuesday evening, December 16, 2008 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas. She was born July 28, 1936 in Caney, Kansas to Elmer and Margaret (Young) White. She grew up and attended school in Caney, Kansas. She married James "Jim" W. Hurt on November 27, 1955 in Miami, Oklahoma. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Sedan. She loved her flower garden, walking and singing with her church group. She is survived by her husband Jim Hurt of the home in Caney, Kansas; two daughters, Kathy Prather and husband Allen of Coweta, Oklahoma and Debra Circle and husband Dan of Sedan, Kansas; one brother, John Young of Caney, Kansas; three sisters, Linda Cameron of Copan, Oklahoma, Lana Still of Nowata, Oklahoma and Barbara Welburn of Texas; one grandson, Jamie Cornett of Minot, North Dakota; three granddaughters, Carissa and Jessica Vaughan and Emily Cabello; numerous nieces and nephews and one very special friend, Ellen Newcomb of Caney, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ramona. The casket will be closed and friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday, December 18 and 19, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas with the Reverend Jerry Bever of the First United Methodist of Sedan officiating. The family has suggested memorial contributions to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
