Wylie N. Myers, age 90, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Wednesday morning, December 10, 2008 at his residence in Sedan, Kansas.
He was born on July 16, 1918 in Wauneta, Kansas to Claud and Geneva (Allen) Myers. He grew up and attended school in the Lowe area near Wauneta. While growing up he worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1941 during World War II. He was the first man drafted out of Chautauqua County. He served in the United States Army until being honorably discharged in 1944, receiving the rank of Sergeant.
In April of 1946, he married Jeannie Blanchard and they later divorced. He worked as a mechanic for PopeJoy Construction in Ulysses, Kansas until he retired in 1978. He married Nola Seigrest in 1967 and they made their home in Golden, Missouri until moving to Sedan in 1988. She preceded him in death in 1996.
He was a member of the VFW in Sedan. He loved fishing, hunting, and dancing.
From his first marriage he is survived by two daughters, Lea Myers of Parsons, Kansas and Jeanette Myers of Sedan, Kansas; one son, Dan Myers of Branson, Missouri; one sister, Joyce Mattox of Whitesville, Kentucky; and one grandson, Dustin McClanahan of Nowata, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife Nola; one brother and two sisters.
Family and friends may call on Monday, December 15, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the First Christian Church with burial following at the Round Mound Cemetery Northwest of Sedan, Kansas.
