Benedict F. "Benny" Peak, 81, of rural Delaware, OK, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013, at his home.
He was born October 2, 1932, at Girard, KS, to Benedict Michael and Mamie (Flanel) Peak. Benny grew up and attended school at Girard, graduating from Girard High School.
On June 21, 1952, he married Teresa Marie Balfay at St. Paul, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in the Girard area until moving to the South Coffeyville, OK area in December 1960, making their home east of Lenapah before moving to their ranch in rural Delaware, OK. Benny was a farmer and rancher in Nowata County for many years. His wife preceded him in death on April 23, 1982.
Benny was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. He was a member of Kanoma Co-op Assoc. for over 50 years and longtime member of their Board of Directors, served as Livestock Supervisor of the Nowata County Fair, the Oklahoma Cattleman's Assoc., and Honorary Life Member of the Oklahoma Union High School FFA Chapter. Benny enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, going to rodeos, the horse races at Sallisaw, OK, and traveling. But his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and working with young people, especially those involved in FFA and 4-H.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Peak of Catoosa, OK, Eddie Peak of Collinsville, OK, and Kenny Peak of Delaware, OK; one daughter, Connie Jones of Nowata, OK; one sister, Marjorie Watson of Warrensburg, MO; his longtime care-giver, Donna Foster; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A Rosary Vigil Service followed by Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Oklahoma Union FFA; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
