Norman L. Carter, age 86, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville.
He was born October 13, 1922 in Auburn, Illinois to Oscar and Mary (Fraley) Carter. He attended school in Verden, Illinois.
He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard.
On December 27, 1947 married Ruby Louise McNutt in Yuma, Arizona. They moved to Coffeyville in 1954. Mrs. Carter preceded him in death on April 4, 1997.
He was a brakeman and conductor for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, in 1983.
He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and the UTW. He enjoyed visiting with friends and working on lawn mowers and farm equipment.
He is survived by one son, Norman E. Carter and wife Cheryl; one daughter, Karen L. Smith and husband Vernon; two step-daughters; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruby and two sisters.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the Restlawn Cemetery in Coffeyville, with Reverend Jamie Regis of the Dearing Christian Church officiating.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, December 5, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville with the family greeting people from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the American Heart Association and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Road, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
