Obituary of Almeda McFall

Coffeyville - Almeda McFall, age 84, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Monday, December 1, 2008 at the Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas. She was born July 4, 1924 in Clifftop, West Virginia. She was the second child born to Enoch and Iva (Gill) Cox. In the years after her birth, more children were added to the family, for a total of fourteen children. She was raised and went to school around Meadow Bridge, West Virginia. During the war, part of the family moved to Portsmouth, Virginia and Almeda worked in a restaurant. After the war, Almeda came to Coffeyville, Kansas and married Bill H. McFall, whom she had met in Portsmouth. They bought their farm north of Coffeyville, shortly after they married and lived there for the next fifty years. They had four children, Linda Joyce, Mereda Kay, Emma Jean and Roger Dean. Emma died in 1975. Almeda was a homemaker and also sold dairy milk, cream and butter from her jersey cow. She was a true farm wife and raised a garden every year and canned and froze her produce. She always shared with others. She loved to pick blackberries and made gallons of jelly and cobblers. She also loved to sew and do hand work. Her specialty was making baby quilts for all of her grandchildren and for the new babies at church. She also made quilts for her children and grandchildren. When her daughter Emma died at the young age of twenty-seven, Almeda helped raise her two children, Lisa and Mike. Many weekends, there would be numerous grandchildren staying with grandma and she always had time for them all. Besides being a housewife and mother, Almeda was also a member of the Lucky 13 EHU and helped with the Busy Band 4-H club activities. She was a member of the church of Christ and was active with church activities. She was also the flower arranger for Sunday services for a number of years. Almeda began to have Alzheimer's Disease in the late 1990's and entered into Windsor Place in 2002. She is survived by her son Roger and wife Linda of Coffeyville, Kansas; daughters, Linda Osborn and husband Gary of Ft. Scott, Kansas, Mereda Kay Tucker and husband Gene of Coffeyville, Kansas; seven grandchildren ;twelve great-grandchildren; siblings Geneva Vandall of Clifton Forge, Virginia, Wanda Diehl of Meadow Bridge, West Virginia, Bettie Carlson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Lena Bragg of Bryantown, Maryland, Norma Neel of Hughesville, Maryland, Audra Millhollin of Clifton Forge, Virginia and Sharon Marshall of Littleton, West Virginia, Carla Suggs of Branford, Florida, Joy Cox, and Wayne Cox of Meadow Bridge, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill McFall; daughter Emma White; grandson Mike White; sisters Rena and Hilda and one brother Joel Cox. Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 5, 2008 at the church of Christ in Coffeyville, Kansas with Clint Kastler and Clint Howard officiating. Interment will follow at the Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson, Kansas. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas with the family greeting friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, the church of Christ or the Mike White Childrens Fund and these remembrances may be left in care of David W.
