Sedan - Betty M. White, age 80, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born June 18, 1928 in Greeley County, Kansas to William and Letha (Fleming) Byerly. She grew up and attended school in Greeley County, graduating from Greeley County High School. After graduating from high school she attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. On November 14, 1948 she married Rollin J. Casement and moved to Sedan in 1950 where they made their home. He preceded her in death in 1973. In 1979 she married Otis Watson and lived in Sedan where they were working at the Sedan Times Star. She was the editor of the Sedan Times Star for many years and later with the help of her husband they wrote for the Tallgrass Country Magazine. He preceded her in death in 2001. On June 17, 2002 she married Paul White in Sedan, Kansas. They made their home in Sedan and in the winter they liked to travel to Texas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, BPW, and was a 4-H leader in Sedan. She enjoyed writing, painting, photography, and traveling. She is survived by her husband, Paul White of the home, four daughters; Janis Schweitzer and her husband Richard of St. Louis, MO; Susan Casement of Davis, CA; Trudy Wilkinson and husband Kenny of Wichita, KS; and Yvonne and Dale Cobbs of Garnett, KS; four sons; David Casement and his wife Leota of Sedan, KS; Brad Casement and his wife Debra of Salem, NH; Robert Watson of Augusta, KS and Doug White and his wife Margie of Kansas City, MO; one brother, William Byerly of Tribune, KS; one brother-in-law Wilbur Ingram; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Rollin Casement and Otis Watson, her parents, one brother, and two sisters. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Dr. J. Dean McNamara officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church of Sedan or the Sedan 4-H Scholarship Fund and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
