Kent Brown, 54, of Coffeyville passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
He was born June 6, 1954 at Wichita to Richard and JaNell (Green) Brown. He grew up and attended school in Wichita graduating from Wichita Southeast High School in 1972. Following high school he attended Kansas State University where he was a member of the Wildcat football team. He graduated in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in secondary education, he later completed his Masters Degree in Counseling.
On July 26, 1975 he married Susan McClarnon at Wichita. Following their marriage and graduation Kent began his football coaching career at Troy, KS after 2 seasons they returned to Manhattan where he coached for 3 years at Monsignor Lucky High School, before moving to Coffeyville to become the Field Kindley High School football coach from 1982 to 1991. After leaving FKHS they moved to Springfield, MO where he coached several years before moving to Carl Junction, MO when he accepted a position with Sysco Corp. In the fall of 2000 he returned to what he enjoyed most working with students when he returned to Coffeyville and became a Counselor and assistant football coach at Field Kindley High School.
Kent attended Holy Name Catholic Church. When he wasn't coaching he loved to camp and go fly fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Susan of the home; one son Jesse Brown of Manhattan; two daughters, Abby Brown and Sarah Brown both of Manhattan; his mother, JaNell Brown of Wichita; and three sisters, Kallie Lampone of Kansas City, MO, Beckie Graham of Overland Park, KS, and Debra Beckley of Wichita. He was preceded in death by his father.
A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2008 in the Field Kindley High School Auditorium with Chaplain Mike Graham officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Towanda Cemetery at Towanda, KS.
Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the Tornado Sideliners or the American Heart Association; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
