Margaret Aileen McCloud, age 94, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 4, 2008 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas.
She was born March 20, 1914 in Sedan, Kansas to George Willibee and Laura Belle (Bays) Watson. She grew up and attended school in Sedan, graduating from Sedan High School in 1933. She married Earl McCloud on November 25, 1934 in Independence, Kansas. They made their first home in Sedan, then to the Lake of the Ozarks and later to Kansas City, Missouri. They also lived in Baltimore, Maryland, where they both dedicated themselves to the Lord and His work. Margaret did volunteer work in the Johns Hopkins Hospital during World War II.
They returned to Kansas while her husband Earl pastured several churches including ones in Niotaze, Grenola and El Dorado, Kansas.
For thirteen years, they organized and pastured the Maranatha Church for the Mentally Retarded in Lincoln, California. They received recognition from the State of California for this work.
In 1975, they returned to Kansas where Earl was the assistant to the Pastor of the Grace Bible Church in McPherson, Kansas before retiring in Sedan. They had a teaching ministry at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home every Sunday morning. Earl preceded her in death on May 23, 1996.
For many years, Margaret was active in the work of Child Evangelism. She also had two books of poetry published and she sometimes presented her poetry in public gatherings. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan, Kansas.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Laura; her husband, Earl McCloud, one son, Kenny McCloud who died as a result of an accident at the age of thirty-three; one daughter, Laura Margaret who died in infancy; four brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, November 6, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 7, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Dr. J. Dean McNamara officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church of Sedan or the Sedan Ministerial Alliance and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
