Coffeyville - Melvin M. Banzet, 83, of Coffeyville passed away Friday, October 24, 2008 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born August 2, 1925 in Craig County, Oklahoma to Charles and Zelma Blanch (Miller) Banzet. He grew up in Craig County where he attended Grant Mound School. On August 10, 1946 he married Helen Cawley at Altamont, Kansas. Following their marriage they made their home in Parsons before moving to Edna where he farmed with his Dad and operated a milk route. They later moved to the Bartlett area before moving to Coffeyville. Mr. Banzet was a truck driver for Pepsi Cola and Page Milk Company for many years, before going to work for the City of Coffeyville where he was employed until retiring in 1989. Following his retirement he drove for SEK-CAP for 15 years. Mr. Banzet was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville, and the Odd Fellows Lodge. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting cars and tractors, especially time spent in his shop working on anything that was mechanical. Survivors include his wife, Helen Banzet of the home; one son, Terry L. Banzet of Forsyth, MO; one sister Zelma Brazeel of Clinton, MO; one granddaughter, Jennifer Bartholomew; and three great-grandsons, Kalvan, Henry and Vance Bartholomew. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister. A Memorial Service will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville, with Reverend John Collins and Pastor Ford Hall officiating. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337. David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville is in charge of arrangements.
