Allen Bowman
Allen Bowman, 70, of Coffeyville went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 25, 2008, due to injuries sustained in an accident after being struck by another motorist while riding his motorcycle in Coffeyville.
He was born on February 22, 1938, at Urbana, Kansas to Carl and Beulah (Brown) Bowman. He grew up on a farm in rural Galesburg, KS. After graduating from Galesburg High School in 1956 he attended Fort Scott Junior College. Following graduation from Fort Scott Junior College he began working at Beech Aircraft in Wichita, KS.
On September 7, 1958 he married Charlene George in Parsons, KS. Following their marriage they lived in Wichita until 1961 when the returned to Parsons where Allen worked for the City of Parsons for nine years. They moved to Coffeyville in 1970 where he was employed as a Master Operator with the City of Coffeyville until retiring after 35 years of service. After retiring he worked part time as a real estate agent for Century 21 from 1993 to 1998. Allen and Charlene recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Aniversary.
He was a elder and trustee in the Bible Baptist Church in Coffeyville. Allen loved to remodel and was working on the Church, he enjoyed gardening and drinking coffee with the boys and time spent with family, especially his wife, children, and grandchildren. Allen also enjoyed watching Red Raven football and basketball games.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Charlene of the home; two daughters, Cindy and Robert Mansell of Norman, OK, and Ginny and Brian Griswold of Coffeyville; one son, Mike Bowman of Oklahoma; two brothers, William Bowman of Wichita, and Jack Bowman of Shawnee Mission, KS; two sisters, Lonva Hall of Dadeville, MO, and Lois Wolfe of Great Bend, KS; and twograndchildren, Jarrod Griswold of Joplin, MO, and Ashley Griswold of Coffeyville. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2008 in the Bible Baptist Church, 701 W. 4th St. (due to construction please enter the Church from 5th St.) with Pastor Daniel Knight officiating. Burial will be in Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 pm. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the Bible Baptist Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Rd., Coffeyville, KS 67337.
