Coffeyville -
Glenn F. Welsh, 81, of Coffeyville passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008 at his home in rural Coffeyville.
He was born July 5, 1927 at Santa Monica, California to Frank J. "Jack" and Laura "Bettye" (Taylor) Welsh. He moved to the Coffeyville area with his family in 1932 where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Field Kindley High School.
In January 1945 he joined the U.S. Navy after receiving his honorable discharge he returned to Coffeyville.
On April 5, 1951 he married Frances Nash in Gravette, Arkansas. Following their marriage they made their home in the Coffeyville area. In 1957 Glenn began his career with the Coffeyville Police Department, after 30 years of service he retired as Assistant Chief of Police in 1987.
Glenn was a member of the Christian Church, Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M., and a Life Member of the Kansas Peace Officers Association. He was a former member of the Board of Governors of the Kansas Peace Officers Association, and a longtime member of the Coffeyville Police Department Pistol Team. Glenn was an avid sportsman and enjoyed golfing, hunting and organizing fishing trips to Mexico and South America.
Survivors include his wife, Frances of the home; one son, Glenn F. "Buck" and Barb Welsh, Jr. of Mosinee, WI; three daughters, Debbie and Scott Blaness of Lake Crystal, MN, Denise and Bob York of Coffeyville, and Diane and Richard George of Coffeyville; one sister, Sharon and Joe Ray of Coffeyville; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Veterans Patio in Fairview Cemetery. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
