Norman Glen Artherton, 75, of Caney, passed away Monday (November 5, 2007) at his home.
He was born June 9, 1932 at Elgin, KS to Bob and Inez (Marshall) Artherton. He grew up in the Niotaze area where he attended elementary school before attending and graduating from Peru High School.
Following high school he served in the U.S. Army. After being discharge he returned to the Niotaze and Caney area.
One March 7, 1959 he married Marjorie Simpson at Miami, Oklahoma. Following their marriage they made their home in Caney and Norman was employed by Parkersburg Rig and Reel and Pressure Cast both in Coffeyville. In 1959 he began his career as a master plumber working at Magana Plumbing in Bartlesville, then working for the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #339 in Coffeyville, retiring from the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #397 in Bartlesville in 1994.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Caney, Caney Veterans of Foreign Wars, Caney Masonic Lodge #324 A.F. and A.M., and Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #430 in Tulsa, OK.
Norman enjoyed square dancing, coaching Little League Baseball, helping his sons build their homes, volunteering his plumbing skills towards many local church building projects, afternoon coffee with his buddies at the Gunny Sack in Caney, spending time fishing and following his grandkids in their sports.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of the home; two sons and their wives, Mark and Tamyla Artherton of Caney, and Curtis and Brenda Artherton of Niotaze; one daughter and her husband, Kathy and Doug March of Coffeyville; one brother, Dale Floyd Artherton of Bartlesville, OK; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Doyle Artherton and one sister, Virginia Artherton.
A Memorial Service will at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (November 10, 2007) at the First Baptist Church in Caney with Rev. Dan DeWitt officiating.
Friends may sign the register book on Thursday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Banres Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
