Helen (Casement) Martin, passed away on Thursday, August 14, at her home in rural Sedan, Kansas. She was ninety-one years of age.
She was born November 2, 1916, in Sedan, Kansas to William Sr. and Elnorah (Raybourn) Casement of rural Sedan. She grew up at Sedan and graduated from Sedan High School in 1934. On November 22, 1936, she married Charles Wheeler Martin, with whom she had three daughters. She was an employee of the Sedan State Bank for more than forty years, serving as vice president at the time of her retirement in 1985. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Sedan.
She was a member of the Sedan Chapter DC, PEO, and a past member of Tuesday Study Club, Sedan Business and Professional Women, and Sedan Chamber of Commerce. She also was a member and a soloist with the Sedan Community Choir.
She is survived by her three daughters: Judith Ann (Mrs. William K.) Quarles of Hidden Hills, California; Mary Jane Hawkins of Lawrence, Kansas; and Lori Estella (Mrs. Allen) Richmond of Sedan, Kansas; her sister Mary Lou Euler of Lansing, Kansas, grandson William Kamrar Quarles III of Washington, D.C., granddaughter Sarah Quarles Jones of San Francisco, California, and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents, her sisters, Avis Reese, Edith Brooke, Margaret Hunt, and Anna Floyd, and her brother William Casement, Jr.
The casket will be closed and friends may sign the register book from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Dr. J. Dean McNamara officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or the First Baptist Church of Sedan, Kansas.
