Obituary of Donna Cook

Coffeyville - Donna M. Cook, 83, of Coffeyville passed away Monday, August 4, 2008 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She was born November 23, 1924 at Lenapah, Oklahoma to Evans William and Lois Irene (Higginson) Ferrell. Donna grew up and attended elementary school in the Valeda area, graduating from Labette County Community High School in 1942. Following high school she attended Nursing School at the Southeast Kansas Hospital in Coffeyville graduating in 1946. On March 23, 1946 she married Donald L. Cook at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where Donna was a Registered Nurse at Southeast Kansas Hospital until moving to Coffeyville Memorial Hospital when it was completed. She worked as a Surgical Nurse for many years retiring from Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in 1982. Mr. Cook preceded her in death on September 9, 2002. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was Deaconess for several years. Donna was a gifted painter sharing her art work with family and friends. She was inducted into the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Wall of Fame in 2004. Survivors include two sons, David Cook and his wife Barbara of Coffeyville, and Dan Cook and his wife Linda of rural South Coffeyville, OK; three sisters, Cora Bayes of Coffeyville, Jean Frazier of Broken Arrow, OK, and Jane Armstrong of Locust Grove, OK; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Donald L. Cook, Jr., two brothers and four sisters. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2008 in the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
