Obituary of Wanda L. Graves

Sedan- Wanda L. Graves, age 85, of Sedan, retired owner of Graves-Baird Funeral Home in Sedan passed away Sunday morning July 27, 2008 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan. She was born May 4, 1923 in Le Roy, Kansas to Isaac L. and Sarah (Day) Vaughan. She graduated from Caney Valley High School in Caney, Kansas. She later worked at Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She married Robert E. "Bob" Graves on September 1, 1945 in Caney, Kansas. The moved to Sedan in 1960 and purchased the Baird Funeral Home, changing the name to Graves-Baird Funeral Home. She was a licensed Funeral Director and they both owned and operated it for twenty-five years until he retired in 1985. He preceded her in death on January 13, 2007. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sedan, the First United Methodist Church Ladies Guild, was a former member of Sedan Country Club, PEO and the Bridge Club. She enjoyed drawing, painting, playing bridge and the other activities that Pleasant Valley Manor offered. She is survived by three daughters, Janis Chase and her husband Jim of Elgin, Kansas, Debi Snider and her husband Charlie of Edmond, Oklahoma and Micki Fulton and her husband Danny of Caney, Kansas; three grandsons, Quinton Fulton, Preston Fulton and his wife Leslie and Barron Snider and two granddaughters, Heather Chase and Brooke and her husband Bill Uhls; two great-grandsons, Kolton Chase and Logan Uhls. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Graves; five brothers and one sister. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas and from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Sedan. The family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Sedan, Kansas with Reverends Jerry Bever and Jan Hayen officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
