Jessye O. Smith, 85, of rural Coffeyville, passed away Monday (November 5, 2007) at her home.
She was born October 3, 1922 at Coffeyville to Orma Benjamin "O.B." and Josephine H. (Brenner) Young. She grew up in Coffeyville where she attended school graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1940.
On August 13, 1940 she married Ira Lee Smith at Nowata, Oklahoma. Following their marriage they made their home in the Coffeyville area, in 1942 they purchased their home east of Coffeyville where she lived for 65 years. Mr. Smith preceded her in death in 2004.
In 1962 the Smith's started the Old Parker Tackle Co., where they hand tied fishing lures, they operated they business until Mr. Smith's death when it was sold to a company in Oklahoma.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Valeda United Methodist Church, and belonged to several clubs in the Old Parker community.
Survivors include one son, Steve L. Smith and his wife Ita of rural Coffeyville; one sister Kathryn Snider of Rayford, NC; three grandchildren, Grady A. Smith of Coffeyville, Stephanie McCarty of Edmond, OK, and Michael D. Smith of Tulsa, OK; and three great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Jack Smith in 1989; two brothers and one sister.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday (November 8, 2007) at the Valeda United Methodist Church in Valeda, KS. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park in Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
