Elva I. McClarnon, 89, of Riverhead, New York, former longtime Wichita resident, passed away Monday, June 2, 2008 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, NY.
She was born May 17, 1919 in Lyndon, KS to Loyd and Aletha (Cazier) Olson. She grew up and attended school in Wichita graduating from Wichita North High School and Friends University. After completing her education she taught school for one year.
On June 1, 1940 she married Thomas McClarnon at Moab, Utah, where Mr. McClarnon was stationed during World War II. Following his discharge they returned to Kansas, making their home in Dodge City and Wichita. Mr. McClarnon preceded her in death in June 1988. Mrs. McClarnon continued making her home in Wichita until moving to Riverhead eight years ago.
Mrs. McClarnon was a longtime member of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Wichita and active in the Teamster Women's organization.
Survivors include one son, Thomas (Martha) McClarnon, Jr., of Garland, TX; two daughters, Teresa (Wynn) Aker of Manorville, N.Y., and Susan (Kent) Brown of Coffeyville; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Inurnment Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 in the Rose Hill Cemetery at South Haven, KS. Cremation has taken place.
The family suggests memorials to the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University, or Pilgrim Congregational Church; contributions may be left in care of or mailed to David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337
