Walter Arthur Wigton, age 71, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan. He was born May 2, 1943 in Columbus, Kansas to Wilson Wigton and Beulah (Pickering) Wigton. He was raised in Columbus graduating from Columbus High School. After high school he went on to Pittsburg State where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. On January 25, 1963 he married Shirley Farnsworth in Pittsburg, Kansas. They moved to Sedan in 1971 where Walter became the music and band teacher in Peru for a couple of years and also in Sedan. He later worked for Koch Oil Company and other oil companies as a bulk transport driver. Before he retired he worked for Jones and Buck Development and the Chautauqua County Road and Bridge Department. Walter was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan, he was an avid singer in the church and also helped with the music services at Pleasant Valley Manor for many years; He also was a member of the Sedan Rural Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Wigton of the home in Sedan, Kansas; three sons, Brian Wigton and wife Marla of Mission, Kansas, John Wigton of Moberly, Missouri, and Jay Wigton and wife Lisa of Junction City, Kansas; one sister, Wilma Doris and husband Albert of rural Erie, Kansas, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother Robert Wigton and his parents. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sedan with Reverend Gene DeWitt officiating. The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church Special Music Fund and may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
