Nova Marie Reed, age 98, after a long and fulfilling life, met with her Lord on Sunday, August 3, 2014. Her Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Peru on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. She was born on November 12, 1915 in Peru, Kansas to Charles O. and I. Marie (Bailey) Lamb. She attended Oakland School from Kindergarten through 6th grade; Peru Middle School and then graduating from Peru High School in 1933. In February 1934 she married Chester Reed in Peru, Kansas. They made their home on the farm for many years as Nova worked in the fields, tending the animals, serving meals, and driving the trucks, she was the ultimate farmer’s wife. She served many years as a Sunday school teacher at Peru United Methodist Church for over 40 years and was very active in the Church. She was involved with 4-H also served on many boards for Farm Bureau; she also was active in the Red Cross and with a few other people she helped start the Peru Alumni Scholarship Fund. In the 1990’s she created a special pink cancer pin and she and her granddaughter sold them at various cancer fund raisers for cancer research. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2008. Survivors include two sons, Charles A. Reed of Sedan, Kansas and R. Joe Reed and wife Donna of Sedan, Kansas; five grandchildren, Sherry Pugmire of Winfield, Kansas, Brian Reed of North Carolina, Cindy Reed of Wichita, Kansas, Rhonda Reed of Salina, Kansas and Paula Sneed of Lansing, Kansas; four great-grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson, Jacob Pugmire, Ryan Pugmire, and Bristol Sneed; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester Reed and her parents. Family and friends may call Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. The family has suggested memorials to the Peru Alumni Scholarship Fund and may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
