Obituary of Leo Henry Burns

Leo Henry “Cotton” Burns of Elgin, Kansas passed away Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Kansas Veteran’s Home in Winfield. He was born July 5, 1917 at Boulanger, Oklahoma to Lee Burns and Bessie (Tinker) Burns. He was a member of the Osage Nation Indian Tribe. He was raised in rural Osage county Oklahoma and graduated from Pawhuska High School. On June 9, 1944 he enlisted in the United States Army at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas before being discharged on June 2, 1946. He married Florence Slaughter and to that union two sons Mike and Steve were born. They were later divorced and he married Morene Stout and she preceded him in death. Leo owned and operated Cotton’s Barber Shop in Sedan for many years before his retirement. Survivors include two sons, Mike Burns of Sedan, Kansas and Steve Burns of Edmond, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Morene. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas with Rev. Paul Stetz of the Assembly of God officiating.
