Herbert N. "Herb" Rogers, 94, of Dearing, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014, at his home. He was born December 31, 1919 at Corona, KS to Oscar and Lulu (Jacobs) Rogers. When he was young his family moved to Coffeyville where he completed his education. Herb as a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army from January 26, 1942 to October 17, 1945. He served in Central Europe and received one Bronze Star. On February 22, 1941 he married Donna L. Conley at Girard. KS. Following their marriage they lived in several different areas while Mr. Rogers was in the Army. After receiving his Honorable Discharge they returned to Coffeyville where they made their home until moving to their home in Dearing 60 years ago. Herb worked as an equipment operator and later in maintenance at the Ozark Smelting and Mining Co. and later Sherwin-Williams Co. retiring after 41 years of employment. He also worked for the City of Dearing as a meter reader for over 20 years. Following his retirement from the City of Dearing the City named the city park Herb Rogers Park in his honor. Herb was a longtime member of the Dearing Christian Church, serving as an Elder for many years. He enjoyed gardening, and recycling metal, but most of all loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Donna L. Rogers of the home; two daughters, Charlotte Sumner of Broken Arrow, OK, and Jan Holtsclaw of rural Elk City, KS; one brother, Floyd Rogers of Arizona; two sisters, Helen Eastwood of Turley, OK, and Lois McNeal of Broken Arrow, OK; five grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Dianna Jean Rogers. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Restlawn Memorial Park in Coffeyville with Pastor Jamie Regis of the Dearing Christian Church officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Dearing Christian Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
