Terry Wayne Carter, Sr., 67, formerly of Coffeyville, KS, passed away Friday evening September 19, 2014, in Chatham, LA, after a four year battle with cancer. Celebration of life services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the Abundant Life Temple, 2nd and Washita, in Coffeyville. Inurnment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Cremation has taken place. Mr. Carter was born February 9, 1947, in Clarks, LA to Rosa Lee (Newton) and Lavern Carter. He attended school in Clarks until 1964 when he joined the Army. He was deployed with the 92nd Aviation Company to Vietnam where he served as a, specialist. He was honorably discharged in 1967. On August 13, 1973, he married Julia Maxine Dickens in Dermott, AR. In 1971 Mr. Carter began working for Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer. He retired in 1993. The couple had two children, Terry Wayne Carter, Jr. and Xavier Joel Carter, and lived in Dermott before moving to Rawlins, WY in 1988 and then to Coffeyville in 1990. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife Julia in 1997, his son Xavier in 1990, a grandson Terrance, Jr. and his parents. Survivors include two sons, Terry Wayne Carter, Jr. of Tulsa, OK, and Terrance Carter of Chatham, LA; a daughter Karen Jones of Monroe, LA; a brother, Mike Newton of Monroe LA; and six grandchildren.
