Obituary of Margaret C. Sweeney

Margaret C. "Muggs" Sweeney, 100, a lifelong Coffeyville resident, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014, at Life Care Center of Wichita. She was born June 4, 1914, at Coffeyville to John Edward "Jack" and Elizabeth Jane Neese (Rogers) Halterman. Margaret grew up and attended school in the Coffeyville area and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School. On July 2, 1933, she married James L. Sweeney at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in rural Coffeyville where they owned and operated the Sweeney Dairy for over 50 years. Her husband preceded her in death on December 4, 1979. Margaret was a longtime member of Holy Name Catholic Church and Holy Name Altar Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. She was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables. Margaret loved to dance, but most of all loved spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include one son, Robert James Sweeney of Williamsburg, VA; one daughter, Margaret Ann Sweeney Foley of Wichita; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2014 at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
