Obituary of Joy Lynn Butterfield

Joy Lynn Butterfield, 66, of Sedan passed away Friday night October 17, 2014, at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan. She was born June 7, 1948 at Deadwood, SD to Pete and Betty June (McClard) Slaska. Lynn grew up and attended school in South Dakota and Oregon. She lived in South Dakota and Oregon unil moving to Kansas in 1980. In 1981 she married James Butterfield at Sedan. Following their marriage they made their home in Sedan. Lynn worked as a Medication Aide at Pleasant Valley Manor for several years. Lynn was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan, she enjoyed crocheting, and knitting, but most of all loved spending thime with her family especially her children and their families. Survivors include her husband, James of Sedan; two sons, Sam Shufeldt of Cherryvale, KS, and John Harris of Peru, KS; two daughters, Shelly Nisley of Maui, Hawaii, and Dora Darnall of Tulsa, OK; two brothers, Michael Slaska of rural Coffeyville, KS, and Jimmy Slaska of Spearfish, SD; eleven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one grandson. A Memorial Service celebrating Lynn's life will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Rev. Mark Davis officiating.
