Obituary of Mary A. Bohannan

Mary A. (McAfee) Bohannan passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born north of Wauneta, KS on February 20, 1926 to Ralph and Ruby McAfee. She attended rural schools in the Wauneta and Sedan areas (Star, Liberty, Cloverdale and Sedan). She married Robert W. Bohannan on December 25, 1941. She resided in the Rural Sedan area while Robert served in World War II. They then traveled the various states working road construction for several years. In the early 70’s, they bought a home in Paola, KS. Mary worked with special needs children at Lake Mary’s for several years. In the late 80’s, she moved to Cedar Vale, KS. She worked for Call Grocery until her retirement. She loved to dance and enjoyed her friends. Mary had two children, Russell Bohannan and Sharon Copple. She was preceded in death by her son, Russell, granddaughter, Beverly McCall, her parents, Ralph and Ruby, and one brother, Bud McAfee. She is survived by her daughter Sharon Copple and husband, John, sisters, June Mantooth and Deloris Bohannan, her aunt, Fern Anderson, sister-in-law, Peggy McAfee, daughter-in-law Kay Bohannan, three grandsons, Jeff, Shane and David, three granddaughters, Julie, Buffy and Kay, fourteen great grandchildren, Brandon, Bryan, Taylor, Gena, Micky, Kirsty, Keely, Brandy, Ryan, Madison, Zander, Jason, Becky and Shylane, eleven great-great grandchildren Rylee, Dominick, Kandance, Jerrick, Ryan Shaylee, Paisley, Konner, Gabriel, Emma and Parker. Graveside services will be Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, KS. Visitation will be at the funeral home prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to the People’s Place Community Center in Cedar Vale and may be left at the funeral home or mailed in c/o of David W. Barnes Funeral Home at 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, KS 67361.
