Obituary of Peggy J. Barnard

Peggy J. Barnard, 77, of South Coffeyville, OK, passed away peacefully at her home, Friday, November 28, 2014; she had been in failing health for the last 10 years. She was born October 25, 1937, at Decatur, IL to Jim and Jennie (Dunn) Ruark. Peggy spent her early childhood and began her education in Decatur. Her family moved to Coffeyville where she completed her education. She later attended Coffeyville Community College. On January 15, 1955, she married James Barnard at Miami, OK. Following their marriage they lived in Bakersfield, CA for three years before returning to the Coffeyville area where they made their home until moving to South Coffeyville 17 years ago. James and Peggy owned and operated General Radiator Service in Coffeyville where Peggy was bookkeeper for many years. She also was a bookkeeper at Foodtown in Coffeyville. Peggy loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the OK Car Club. Survivors include her husband, James of the home; one daughter, Cheryl Gillman and husband John of rural Independence; two sons, Mike Barnard and wife Vicki of Branson, MO, and Mark Barnard of South Coffeyville, OK; seven grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Diane Ehart on April 24, 2011. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Veterans Memorial Patio in Fairview Cemetery with Evangelist David Bycroft of Tyro Christian Church officiating. Friends may sign the register book on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
