Obituary of Neva Parker

Neva, Parker, 96, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, went to be with her Lord and Savior December 4, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; and son, Curtis; sisters Wanda Stotts and Thelma Burch; and brothers Ernie Mantooth and Hugh Mantooth. She is survived by her daughter, Christia Jarboe, of San Marcos, Texas; granddaughters, Gunile (Ali) Walker Haroual and Charissa (Bill) JarboeGale, of Wichita; and great-granddaughters, Nicole Walker, Nura Cheyenne Haroual and Aya Shawnee Haroual of Wichita; and sister, Vesta Miller of Fairplay, Missouri. As a self-employed business woman, she and her husband owned and operated Parker's Grocery Store and the Black Dog Trail Indian Museum in Chautauqua, KS, for over 20 years. She also enjoyed ranching with her husband until his death in 1984. She is a charter member of the Chautauqua Southern Baptist Church, Chautauqua, KS, and was a faithful Christian all her life, loving the Lord, her family, and her work. As a young girl, she won the Chautauqua County Spelling Bee in the 8th grade and represented Chautauqua County at the Capper’s State Spelling Bee in Topeka. She continued to enjoy spelling bees, always challenging others, and garnered first-place honors at monthly spelling bees held at her residence in Wichita. She graduated valedictorian of Chautauqua Rural High School at age 16. She served on the Election Board of the Belleville Township for several years and enjoyed cooking, gardening and taking care of her chickens. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 8, 2014 at the Chautauqua Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. with Brother Kevin Fogerty and Brother Earl Tresner officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Chautauqua, Kansas. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials to the Jonesburg Church or the Chautauqua Baptist Church and may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
