Obituary of Vera Louise Cotton

Vera Louise Cotton, 89, of Coffeyville passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She was born May 17, 1925, at Yale, OK to William and Henrietta (Smith) Welch. Vera grew up and attended school in Stillwater, OK. On July 21, 1943, she married James F. Cotton at Pawnee, OK. Following their marriage they lived in Oklahoma while her husband served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge they moved to Coffeyville in October 1946. Vera worked for the Salvation Army in Independence and Coffeyville. She attended Southview Church of God in South Coffeyville, OK. Survivors include one daughter, Frances Kuehn of Coffeyville, one son, William Cotton of Elk City; eight grandchildren, and twenty-five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James Melvin "Hefty" Cotton; one brother; and two sisters. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Emmanuel Chapel in South Coffeyville, OK with Pastor Virgil Rexwinkle officiating. Following the service cremation will take place, private family inurnment in Jefferson Cemetery northwest of Coffeyville will take place at a later date. Friends may call on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
