Obituary of Thomas Dean Comstock

Thomas Dean Comstock, age 87, formerly of Cedar Vale, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Howard Twilight Manor in Howard. He was born on February 14, 1927 in Rural Cowley County, Kansas to Louis Comstock and Sylvia (Stephenson) Comstock. He attended Cedar Vale High School and later received his GED. Tom left high school to enlist in the United States Army, serving his country until he was honorably discharged. In December of 1947 he married Jacqueline Gigaret in Hiedleberg, Germany. Tom worked as a Meat Inspector for the United States Department of Agriculture for thirty years until his retirement in 1983. After retiring from the USDA, Tom ran the Hays Ranch near Cedar Vale for about fifteen years. Tom was a hardworking man who loved bird hunting, fishing, and ranching. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Comstock of Howard, Kansas; one daughter, Sylvia Rothrock of Tucson, Arizona, two grandchildren, Gage Thomas Rothrock of Vancouver, Washington and Cara Liane Rothrock of Tucson, Arizona; one great-granddaughter, Aliana Gilmore of Tucson, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his nine brothers and sisters, and his parents. Church Services will be held Friday, January 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wauneta United Methodist Church with Reverend Jerry Bever officiating. Burial will follow at the Round Mound Cemetery in Rural Wauneta, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Wauneta United Methodist Church and can be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
