Obituary of Eugene Everett Shere

Eugene Everett Shere, 82, of South Coffeyville, OK passed away January 5, 2015, at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. He was born August 7, 1932, at Welch, OK to Frank Flint and Gladys Anna (Smith) Shere. Gene grew up attended school in Welch graduating from Welch High School. On May 16, 1977, he married Helen J. Gilfillan at Miami, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville until moving to South Coffeyville in 1979. Gene worked in the Tooling Department at Funk Mfg. now John Deere Coffeyville Works for many years before retiring in 1994. After his retirement he worked as a Security Guard and mowed lawns. He loved working in his garden and doing yard work at their home, but most of all loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Helen of the home; two son, Lonnie Shere of Little Rock, AR, Steve Shere of Miami, OK, one daughter, Pam Anderson of Coleman, AL; two step-sons, Donald Ray Zeigler of Biloxi, MS, John Travis Zeigler of South Coffeyville, OK; one step-daughter, Sue Scott of Coffeyville; one brother, Jack Shere of California; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service celebrating Gene's life will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2015, at the First Church of God (West 5th St. and Cline Rd.) in Coffeyville with Chaplain Mike Graham of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating. Inunurnment will be in the Robbin Cemetery west of Coffeyville. Friends may sign the register book on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
