Shirley A. (Frye) Shelton, 77, of Coffeyville, Kansas went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2015 where she had been a resident at Windsor Place since October 2014. Shirley was born July 27, 1937 in Coffeyville, Kansas to George Dewey and Mary Elizabeth (Brock) Frye. She is survived by one brother, James Wesly Frye of Lenapah, Oklahoma, two sister-in-laws, Jeannie Frye of Coffeyville, Kansas and Erma Frye of Caney, Kansas and many nieces and nephews who she inspired and was love by them all. Shirley graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1957 and went on to receive her Associate's Degree from Coffeyville Community College in Accounting. She married James Shelton on August 16, 1974. He passed away in 1994. Over the years she worked for K & S Oil Co., Mary's Signs and Wonders and Go Natural Healthy Living as a bookkeeper. Shirley enjoyed quilting and painting and she also loved to crochet and made many baby blankets, booties, hats and socks for family members and friends. She was a distributor of Cameo Paint Products and loved teaching Cameo with paint classes at Windsor Place and in her home. She enjoyed playing the harpsicord and writing her own music and lyrics. In Shirley's early years at the age of five Shirley was stricken with polio. She wasn't expected to live past fifteen years of age. But with her strong will and trust in God, she defied all odds. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and six brothers, Bud and John Of Coffeyville, Kansas, Alvin of Enid, Oklahoma, Tommy and Don of Caney, Kansas, George of Niotaze, Kansas, three sisters, Marian Drietzler of Horton, Kansas, Phyllis Queener of Spiro, Oklahoma, Marilyn (Sue) Weaver of Wann, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held Friday, January 16, 2015 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Veteran's Memorial Patio. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army and can be left at the funeral home or can be mailed to the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Road, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
