Babe C. Lewis, 90, of Coffeyville, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Windsor Place Assisted Living. He was born December 21, 1924 in Coffeyville, to Jessie William and Hattie Mae (Behner) Lewis. Babe was a lifelong Coffeyville resident, graduating from Field Kindley High School. He also attended Coffeyville Community College. Babe served in the United States Army during World War II with the 84th Infantry Division until February 3, 1946. He served in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. On October 10, 1943, he married Inez Davis in Galveston, Texas. They had four children. Babe was a plumber with Hazelwood Plumbing Co. until beginning his career with the Coffeyville Police Department serving many years as Chief of Police until retiring in 1975, after 22 years of service. After retiring he was a security guard with Larry Erne Security and at Western Publishing retiring for good in 1992. He was of the Pentecostal Faith and a member of V.F.W. Post #1022 He spent his free time enjoying wood carving and wood working in his shop. He loved writing but most of all loved spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Mark Lewis, three brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Inez, two daughters, Edie Filson, and Debbie Hendrix both of Coffeyville, one son, Kenny Lewis of San Antonio, Texas, nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park in Coffeyville, with Pastor Shannon Dozier officiating. Military Rites will be provided by V.F.W. Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20. Friends may call on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be left at the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Road, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
