Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Burge

Mary Elizabeth (Jones) Burge was born on January 25, 1955 in Independence KS to Everett Jones and Mary Caroline (Thompson) Jones of Cherryvale, KS. She died on January 20, 2015 at her home in Coffeyville with her beloved husband Sam at her side. Mary attended Cherryvale schools until 1971 when she married Donald Howland of Independence, KS. The couple divorced in 1973. Mary was an adventurous person with a lust for life. She lived and worked in many places in Southeast Kansas making many dear friends, and adopting family, along the way. She met and married Sam Burge Jr., the love of her life, of Coffeyville in 1985, the couple made their home in Dearing for many years to follow. She attended cosmetology school in Coffeyville in the mid-eighties and later worked as a Cosmetologist at Pam's Place in Dearing for several years before hanging up her shears to be a homemaker. She enjoyed learning and teaching, serving as a tutor at the adult learning center of Coffeyville. She was also an award winning artist and crafts person. She was proceeded in death by her parents and brother Everett W Jones. She is survived by her husband Sam Burge Jr. of Coffeyville, her daughter Christina Howland Tucker of Coffeyville, children by choice Everett Jones Jr. of Coffeyville, Mandi Lee and Stephen Parrett of Dewey OK, and David and Jillian Einwechter of Papillion Nebraska. She is also survived by her brother John and Jan Jones of Derby, KS, her sister Cindy Hooper Shepard of McAlester ok, her grown grandchildren Joshua Tucker and fiancé Jeani Schriver of Parsons, Logan Tucker of Coffeyville, three grandchildren by choice, one great grand child by choice, one great grand daughter, Isabella, due any day. A celebration of life ceremony will be announced at a later date. It was Mary's wish that donations be made, in leu of flowers, to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with or mailed care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
