Obituary of Ella Monalou Michel

Ella Monalou Michel, 81, of Coffeyville, passed away Friday, January 23, 2015, at her home. She was born on July 16, 1933, at Crane, MO to Curtis Heber and Eva Florence (Williams) Evans. Monalou grew up and attended school in Crane and Aurora, MO, graduating from Aurora High School. On July 21, 1950, she married Charles E. Michel at the Presbyterian Church in Aurora, MO. Following their marriage they made their home in Nevada, MO until moving to Coffeyville in 1954. Monalou was a secretary for U.S.D. #445, she worked at the Field Kindley High School Attendance Office, then the Main Office, followed by working at the Board of Education Central Office. She retired on June 30, 1995 at 26 years of service to U.S.D. #445. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville, Monalou was very active in the church serving as a Deacon, and she was Treasurer for the Presbyterian Thrift Shop and volunteered her time working in the Thrift Shop. She was a member of the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, served as Trustee for the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Foundation, and was a member of Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband, Charles of the home; one son, Michael Michel and wife Janet of Topeka, KS; three daughters, Julie Wiles and husband Tim of Coffeyville, Linette Tipton and husband Tom of Coffeyville, and Diedre Michel of Wichita, KS; one sister, Sue Hartker of Truckee, CA; nine grandchildren, Erin Michel, and Libby Michel both of Addison, TX, Adam Michel and wife Kathy of Lutherville, MD, Cooper Michel of Topeka, Eric Wiles and wife Kari of Coffeyville, Sarah Zschoche and husband Matt of Kansas City, MO, Greg Wiles and wife Brianna of Dallas, TX, Katie Martin and husband Nate of California, MD, and Ben Tipton and wife Kara of Mulvane; and four great-grandchildren, Creighton, Reagan, Charlea, and Quincee Wiles. She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Nikki Lynne Michel on March 23, 1956. A gathering celebrating Monalou's life for family and friends will be Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church Parlor from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Foundation, the First Presbyterian Church, or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the David W. Barnes Funeral Home or mailed c/o the funeral home at 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
