Obituary of Lucy Garrett Jackson

Sedan - Lucy Garrett Jackson, age 85, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 in Abilene Texas. Lucy was born in Hulbert, Oklahoma on October 18, 1921 to Paul and Katherine Hart Orton. She graduated from Chautauqua High School in Chautauqua, Kansas and Coffeyville Junior College in Coffeyville Kansas. Employment included five years as the Social Editor at the Sedan Times Star, thirty-three years with Southwestern Bell, starting as a switchboard operator and finishing as the manager of the Local Business Office, and four years with the oil company of Geologist Harry Pierce. She was an active member of Epiphany Episcopal Church and belonged to the St. Agnus Guild, Altar Guild, and also the Naomi Guild which she helped establish. Community activities included Beta Sigma Phi, Eastern Star, Telephone Pioneers Sedan Chamber of Commerce, and The Tuesday Study Club. She is survived by two daughters, Vicki Kuzma and husband Robert of Abilene, Texas, and Ginny Turvey and husband Robert of Lawrence Kansas; one brother, Allen Orton of Belle Plaine, Kansas; five grandchildren, Andy Kuzma, Sherry Oberholtzer, Paul, Michael and David Turvey and three great grandchildren, Madelyn and Savanna Oberholtzer and Nathan Turvey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Katherine Orton, one brother James A. Orton, and husbands Harry L. "Bunny" Garrett and Harvey Jackson. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 9, 2007 at the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Sedan, Kansas, with the Reverend Barbara K. Bloxsom officiating. Inurnment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Epiphany Episcopal Church of Sedan and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
