William Uras Cotton, 67, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at his home in Elk City, Kansas. He was born on August 19, 1947 in Coffeyville, Kansas to James Frances and Vera Louise (Smith) Cotton. He lived most of his life in Coffeyville, attending Field Kindley High School before moving to Elk City six years ago. William served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 until November 13, 1970 before being honorably discharged. He worked at was is known today as Standard Motors in Independence, Kansas retiring from there in 2002 after twenty-five years. He loved hunting and show cars, car shows and restoring old cars. He was a member of the Journey Church in Independence, Kansas. William was preceded in death by his parents, James and Vera, and one brother James "Hefty" Cotton. He is survived by his wife, Belinda of the home, two daughters, Melissa Wade and Jennifer Tucker and two sons, David Chism and Benjamin Chism, one sister, Frances Kuehn and seventeen grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015 at Journey Church with Pastor Dwight Burchett and Pastor Jim Thornber officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Journey Church and may be left at the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
